National Heritage Day
Historical monuments all over The Netherlands are open to the public free of charge, including the windmills De Noord (Noordvest 38), De Drie Koornbloemen (Vellevest 5) en De Walvisch (Westvest 229). Windmill De Walvisch also has a temporary terrace where pancakes are served.
Time: Open from 10.00 hrs.
Location: some of the Schiedam windmills
Age: From 10 up to 100 years of age. Free entrance. (In Museum Windmill De Nieuwe Palmboom the normal admission fee is charged.)

Living in a polder windmill
From 12th to 20th October it’s History Week again, a national initiative. This year the central theme of History Week  is “Living in The Netherlands”. The Schiedam Windmills Foundation is also adopting this theme. In windmill De Babbersmolen millers from the old days talk about how it felt to live in a polder mill.
Time: From 14.00 – 17.00 hrs.

Tinker with your secret in the windmill, but keep it to yourself!
‘Secrets” is the central theme of Kid’s Books Week 2007. Museum Windmill De Nieuwe Palmboom at Noordvest 34 in Schiedam also has a lot of secrets and mysteries. Do you have a secret? Don’t tell anyone about it! Come to the windmill on Sunday 21th October to tinker with your secret using autumn’s items like leaves, small branches, pine cones and acorns. You’ll get lemonade and a snack and after finishing tinkering you will receive a small present.
