In De Nieuwe Palmboom you can see the miller at his work and you can also learn more about the history of the mills in Schiedam. The museum part shows you “van korrel tot borrel” (processing the grain from the farm to the bakery and distillery) and the scale-model of Schiedam in 1847 tells you about the golden age of the mills and jenever. The windmill grinds flour for the bakers and malt flour for the authentic Schiedam jenever.

The original mill De Palmboom, also a mill which ground grain for the distilleries, was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1901. All that was left was a stump. Ninety years after the fire, restoration and reconstruction began. This unique project was successful thanks to the support of many people. In 1993 Museum Windmill De Nieuwe Palmboom opened its doors.

Activities include: guided tours, children's birthday parties and every year a new exhibition. It is even possible to have your wedding ceremony in the windmill!

. Make a reservation in advance, one week before at the latest.

Dutch Museum Pass and Rotterdam pass holders free entrance.

Reduced admission ticket available for The Jenever Museum. Outside the windmill you will find the starting point for the canal trip.

  • a disabled toilet is available.
  • There is a coffee corner on the ground floor.
  • Children under 12 years of age will be admitted only if accompanied by an adult.
  • Pets are not admitted.
  • Can be reached by bus and tram line 1 (stop: Stadserf). Also by metro (station: Parkweg) on the red line.
  • It is possible to park near the windmill (parking fee is charged).
